BHUBANESWAR: More showers are in the offing in the State as the cyclonic circulation over north-west Bay of Bengal has triggered a low-pressure area off the State’s coast while another will form next week.
The current low pressure is lying over north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Odisha. Under its impact, rain and thundershower are likely to occur at most places over the districts.
The met office also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over south Odisha and at one or two places over north Odisha during next 24 hours.

Gusty surface wind speed reaching a speed of 35 km to 45 km gusting to 55 km is likely to prevail along and off the coast. Since sea condition is likely to be rough, fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into sea. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC)’s office said, very heavy rain may occur in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Ganjam in next 48 hours over north west Bay of Bengal.
However, this system is unlikely to strengthen. Director of IMD Sarat Chandra Sahu said, the system is unable to gather cloud and will weaken.

However, another system is likely to form on around August 31 and September 1 off north Odisha coast. It is expected to become stationary up to September 5 and cause continuous heavy rainfall in catchments of north Odisha rivers during September 2 to 4.
