CUTTACK: There seems to be no respite from jaundice menace in the Millennium City. Fresh outbreak of the disease in Ward No. 8, 9 and 16 has again put the authorities of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) in a spot of bother.

While a jaundice patient allegedly died on Tuesday, four new cases were reported from Bangali Sahi on Wednesday.

Since the last one month, more than 60 persons have been affected by jaundice at Tulasipur, Matha Sahi, Narayan Sahu Lane, Srivihar Colony and Bangali Sahi.

The CMC authorities have geared up to tackle the jaundice situation after 55-year-old Rohit Behera of Sri Vihar Colony allegedly died of the water-borne disease which is said to have resurfaced due to use of contaminated drinking water.

To curb the menace, CMC authorities held a review meeting on jaundice with officials of PHED and JICA and decided to intensify cleanliness drive in the affected areas.

While a health camp was organised at Bangali Sahi of Ward No. 9, another camp will be conducted in Ward No. 16 on Thursday, CMC sources said. he CMC has also formed three special teams to keep a watch on the affected areas. Each team comprising three CMC officials will visit the Wards everyday and submit daily report to CMC’s Additional Commissioner Bharat Chandra Behera, who will be the Nodal Officer.

The Nodal Officer will compile information of activities taken up in the Wards and submit the consolidated report to the Government, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central) and the district Collector.
