Youth with neuro disorder awaits aid

With no aid from any quarters, a teenager from Nayagarh district suffering from neurological disorder has been languishing in SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) at Cuttack.

BHUBANESWAR: With no aid from any quarters, a teenager from Nayagarh district suffering from neurological disorder has been languishing in SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) at Cuttack for more than a fortnight.

Bibhuti Nahak (17), a resident of Hiradeipur village, suffered from the disorder after he met with an accident two years back. Unable to stand and even do his daily chores, he is now lying on the verandah of the neuro-surgery ward.

His mother Kama Nahak (45), who is under treatment at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC) after a surgery, has appealed for financial assistance to get him cured.

Social activist Abhimanyu Das, who is taking care of the two said, a surgery was conducted on Kama on Monday and she is responding well. “But, she is worried about her son who is admitted here since June 22. We have applied for assistance from Odisha State Treatment Fund,” he said.

Das said, Bibhuti fell on the village concrete road from his cycle and got injured. He was rushed to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to SCBMCH, where doctors spotted a blood clot on his neck vein and advised a surgery.

As Kama could not arrange funds for the surgery, Bibhuti had to return home after undergoing treatment for nearly 20 days. He remained under homoeopathy treatment but his health condition deteriorated as his legs and hands started bending.

Abhimanyu said, a group of youths from his village had admitted the two in SCBMCH, but left them midway. “I came to know about them during my visit to the hospital. I rushed Kama to AHRCC, where she was operated. I have approached head of neuro-surgery department for surgery so that he can at least do his own jobs,” he added.
