‘Prepare MSME credit plan in fortnight’

The State Government on Monday directed the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) to prepare a special annual credit plan for MSME  (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Monday directed the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) to prepare a special annual credit plan for MSME  (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector for the current financial year. The SLBC has been asked to prepare credit plan for the State within a fortnight and ensure that the plan is implemented by commercial banks operating in the State.

Chief Secretary AP Padhi gave this direction during a review of the performance of the MSME sector here. Padhi further directed the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) to identify 100 acres of land in Kalinga Nagar industrial area for small and medium enterprises, who have received Government approval for setting up their units.

Investment proposals cleared by single window authority, both at district and State levels, will be provided land in different industrial estates of IDCO, he added.

The State Government has facilitated self-employment opportunities for more than 12.28 lakh persons through 2.85 lakh MSMEs, said MSME Additional Chief Secretary LN Gupta.

Gupta said, `14,206 crores has been invested by June this year in the sector. Units set up under this sector were mainly food processing and allied sector, chemical, electrical and electronics, metal engineering, wood-based industries, glass and ceramics.

Besides, leather, paper manufacturing, rubber and plastic, textiles, manufacturing and repairing have also been set up in State, he added.As many as 21,935 units have been set up under Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) with an investment of `491 crores which has created job opportunities for 1.74 lakh persons, Gupta said.In the downstream industries sector, 3,083 units including 757 fly ash, 1804 steel, 198 aluminium, 333 other industries have provided employment opportunity for 27,432 persons.
