BHUBANESWAR: As many as 20 villages of Angul and Dhenkanal districts were flooded by a surging Brahmani which was fuelled by release of water from Rengali reservoir.
About 18 villages under Kaniha block of Angul and two villages of Gondia block in Dhenkanal were affected by the moderate flood after water was released through 10 gates from Rengali Dam.
Water level of the river at Jenapur was showing a rising trend while Kharasrota was also swelling at Binjharpur.
The Revenue and Disaster Management department said Bari and Binjharpur blocks of Jajpur and Rajnagar in Kendrapara are likely to be affected in the next 24 hours due to the floods.
Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Kendrapara district administrations have been alerted and an ODRAF team each has been deployed in Bari, Binjharpur and Rajnagar blocks to take up search and rescue operation. More teams will be deployed, if needed.Meanwhile, flood situation in Sundargarh has improved as water level in Brahmani and Ib started to recede. Similar was the trend with Subarnarekha, which was receding at Rajghat.
Water recedes in Rourkela
Rourkela: Flood situation in Brahmani has improved with the river flowing at 175.250 m against the red mark of 178.420 m at its origin point here on Friday evening. Panposh Sub-Collector HS Behera said the water level of Brahmani river receded from Thursday evening. He said with Mandira dam of RSP on Sankh river regulating release of water, Brahmani’s water level at Rourkela reduced to 175.250 m by 8 pm on Friday. From early Thursday morning, Brahmani had started swelling and was flowing three metres above the danger mark.
Four more gates of Hirakud opened
Sambalpur: Authorities on Friday opened four more gates of Hirakud Dam. Currently, water is being released through 12 sluice gates of the dam. As at 6 pm on Friday, the water level of Hirakud Dam Reservoir (HDR) stood at 609.04 ft against Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 630 ft. The flow into the reservoir was 1,70,367 cusec and outflow 2,04,388 cusec including power channel and canals. The rainfall in the upstream of the dam in the last 24 hours has been registered at 1.82 mm while 3.69 mm rain was recorded in the downstream.
