Believed dead, missing man traced to Allahabad

Karan Sabar of Nuapada set to reunite with family after 29 yrs

NUAPADA:A missing man believed dead by family members was traced to Allahabad and is set to reunite with the family after 29 years.

Karan Sabar, a migrant labourer of Dianmunda village in the district, had left for Visakhapatnam in 1988 along with his brothers Ratan, Daman and  other villagers to work in a brick kiln there. While in their camp at the kiln site, Sabar had gone out to buy something but never returned. Desperate searches by his brothers failed and he remained untraceable.

After waiting for him for five years, the family took him to be dead. His family members performed his final rites and his wife Sabitri, whom he married in 1985, remarried.

However, the news of Sabar being alive was broken to them on May 31 when a person from Allahabad wrote a letter to the family informing them about Sabar. From the letter, they learnt that Sabar had boarded a Mumbai-bound train mistaking that it was bound for Nuapada. As Sabar was travelling without ticket, he was put behind bars. After his release, he worked in a hotel in Mumbai for about nine years.

Subsequently, he left Mumbai and landed in Samaspur village in Soraon Tehsil of Allahabad district in Uttar Pradesh where he met Akhiles Dwivedi. On learning about his plight, Dwivedi wrote a letter to his family with a hope to reunite them.

Meanwhile, the elated family members spoke to him over mobile phone after which three of them left for Samaspur to bring him back. Sabitri, who married a man of Tanwat village, too has been informed about Sabar.

Labour Inspector Gouranga Samantray said they are keeping a tab on the development and if needed, they will extend all possible help.
