PURI: At Least two Bajrang Dal and as many BJP workers were detained by Puri Police while trying to show black flags to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee near the Jagannath temple.
A day after some servitors threatened to prevent the West Bengal Chief Minister from entering the temple as she favoured consumption of beef, Banerjee visited the temple amid tight security at 5.45 pm on Wednesday. Temple administrator (nitee), Mahesh Panigrahi and temple chief security officer Prafulla Mishra conducted her into the temple.

As entry into the sanctum sanctorum has been prohibited in wake of repair works in Jagamohan by the ASI, Banerjee offered prayers to the divine Trinity from a distance at ‘Baharkath’. After paying respects to the ‘pundits’ at Mukti Mandap, she visited Bimala, Mahalaxmi and Bhubaneswari temples in the complex and offered prayers.
After staying in the temple for 25 minutes, she left for special circuit house. However, while stepping out, some Bajrang Dal and BJP workers tried to show black flags to her and attempted to raise slogans against Banerjee’s visit.
