Green celebrations on Ganesh puja in Jharsuguda

Volunteers of a local social group named as Friends Club used bio-degradable materials to decorate the pandal and opted for a green idol

JHARSUGUDA: Devotees here chose to celebrate Ganesh puja in an eco-friendly way this year. Volunteers of a local social group named as Friends Club used bio-degradable materials to decorate the pandal and opted for a green idol.

“The pandal has been made with more than 25,000 pieces of recyclable papers, dried straw, bamboo and mud,” said club president Ajay Poddar. Moreover, the club wouldn’t immerse the idol in local water bodies. “We have decided to place the idol in the temple,” Poddar added.

“The pandal will depict the tribal culture and spread the message of going green,” the organisers said.

Other organisers in Brajrajnagar, Belpahar, Bandhbahal and Banharpali towns have also opted for eco-friendly Ganesh idols.
