MALKANGIRI : Maoists have reportedly constructed a building at the remote and inaccessible Totaguda village under Jantri panchayat in the cut off region on the other side of Chitrakonda reservoir. The rebels plan to inaugurate the building during the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week which commenced from Saturday.

Police are aware of the construction by the rebels but are tight-lipped over the issue. The purpose of the construction is not yet known, police sources said and added that security forces have strengthened intelligence network for the PLGA week and acting on inputs to put rebels on the back-foot.
Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was paralysed on the first day of PLGA week. Passengers in large numbers were found stranded at different places across the district. The State-run OSRTC buses did not ply on Malkangiri-Jeypore route and stayed off the road at other places.

The district authorities have suspended the service as a preventive measure to avert any untoward incident during the week. While a few private buses were seen operating on the day, most of the vehicles stayed off the road causing a lot of inconvenience to passengers. However, shops and business establishments remained opened in the district headquarters town and other places.
