JAGATSINGHPUR: Apprehending communal tension at Salampur, Rasulpur and other villages of Biritola panchayat under Tirtol block, district administration has tightened security for a peaceful poll in the third phase to be held on Friday. Security was also provided to BJD and Congress backed candidates during door to door campaign in Biritol.
Tension prevailed in Biritola panchayat during election campaign when some aspirants were allegedly found wooing Hindu voters to cast vote in favour of a Muslim woman sarpanch candidate and vice-versa. A clash occurred between the two communities over the issue. Collector Yamini Sarangi said, a platoon of police force has been deployed and Sub-Collector and two magistrates have been pressed into service to monitor the situation.
