ROURKELA/DEOGARH:Three girls of Rourkela, including two minor sisters, were raped in separate incidents late Wednesday night. While the crime against the minor girls was committed in the Steel City, the other incident was reported from Deogarh.The sisters, police said, were allegedly kidnapped by two cab drivers who took them to an RSP quarters at Sector-6 where the accused committed the crime. The victims were then dropped back near their house in the wee hours of Thursday by the perpetrators. While elder sister is a Class X student, the younger one studies in Class VII.
The victims’ mother reported the matter to police and said her daughters had gone out of the house to relieve themselves at around 12.30 am when they were abducted by the cab drivers.
Jhirpani police on Thursday detained the accused, identified as Krishna Maharana (22) and Ashwini Naik (23) of Sector-2 area. Both were working as drivers for a popular cab service.
Rourkela SP Uma Shankar Dash said medical examination of the victims and culprits was conducted at Rourkela Government Hospital. The accused have been detained and would be arrested subsequently. He said it appeared the accused were known to the victims and further investigation is underway.
In the second incident, a girl from Rourkela, who had gone to Deogarh with her boyfriend to witness Ganesh Mela, was raped by two youths in the wee hours of Thursday. Police have arrested the accused while their two accomplices escaped. The arrested were later identified as Manoj Prusty (22) and Pintu Ghatwari (24). Both are from Deogarh town.
The girl and her boyfriend were going towards Pradhanpat at about 3.30 am when four youths on two bikes intercepted them. They assaulted the boyfriend and two of the accused took the girl to Pradhanpat forest on their motorcycle and raped her before she was rescued by police.
