Ret spillway mishap: Two arrested

BHAWANIPATNA: Narla police on Thursday arrested site manager Dusasan Naik and engineer Upendra Mahananda in connection with the spillway construction mishap at Ret medium irrigation project that killed a worker and injured another.

Ramprasad Diwvedi of Madhya Pradesh was killed while Mangal Singh of Jharkhand sustained injuries after a structure collapsed during the spillway construction work on the irrigation project at Kuting Padar on Wednesday.

Sources said the two workers jumped down from a height of 24 metres in fear after a centering plate collapsed under the pressure of concrete mixture.
Kalahandi Collector Anjan Kumar Manik said an enquiry team, led by Project Director of DRDA, visited the mishap site on the day.

Though Odisha Construction Company is the contract agency of the spillway project, it has sub-let the work to SSN Rani Company of Andhra Pradesh. An official of the construction firm informed that adequate compensation will be provided to the deceased's family while medical expenses of the injured person will be borne by the company.Meanwhile, injured Mangal has been shifted to Vizag for further treatment.
