BHUBANESWAR: The Biju Janata Dal on Tuesday announced that the youth and student wing activists of the party will demonstrate at all the petrol pumps in the State to protest against the record hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Announcing this at a media conference here, BJD general secretary Sanjay Dasburma said members of Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) will demonstrate infront of all petrol pumps from 9 am to 12 noon to make people aware about the anti-people steps of the Centre in a peaceful manner. He said care would be taken to ensure no customer faces any problem during the demonstration.

Stating that rise in the petrol and diesel prices have affected common people across the country, Dasburma said excise duty on petrol which was Rs 9.2 per litre on July 10, 2014 has increased by 200 per cent and reached Rs 19.48 per litre as on February 2. While the price of petrol has increased from Rs 56.61 in March, 2016 to Rs 72.79 now, the price of diesel has increased from Rs 46.43 to Rs 69.54 now, he said and added that the Centre has increased excise duty on petrol and diesel nine times during the last four years.
