East Coast Railway: Retired railway employee held for land fraud

A retired railway employee cheated his colleague of `2.5 lakh on the pretext of providing him a plot in the City.

BHUBANESWAR:A retired railway employee cheated his colleague of Rs 2.5 lakh on the pretext of providing him a plot in the City. East Coast Railway Employee Trilochan Behera of Gadakana conned his colleague Rabindra Nath Hui by showing him a government land as his brother-in-law’s plot. Behera fixed `10 lakh as the price of the land and took `2.5 lakh advance from Hui in 2011. The investor then realised that it was a Government land as the authorities demolished the construction made on the land. Behera later retired and he did not refund his colleague’s money. “Behera was nabbed recently. A case has been registered and he was produced in a court on Friday,” Mancheswar police said.

1 arrested for cheating bank

Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Friday produced Soumya Ranjan Nanda, accused of impersonating as a teacher and availing loan from a public sector bank, in court. Nanda of Jagatsinghpur was apprehended in connection with a case registered in 2011. Around 39 loan applicants impersonated as teachers and employees of a fictitious orphanage at Nuapada in Cuttack and availed personal loans of over `67 lakh from SBI-Malgodown branch in 2006.
