Joint survey to develop drainage system in Nayapalli-CRP Square area

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting convened by Khurda Collector on Tuesday where officials of NHAI and BMC were present.

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Khurda district administration and officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will conduct a joint survey for developing a proper drainage system in Nayapalli-CRP Square area for discharge of rainwater. A plan will be sketched to deal with water-logging menace on the service road in front of Iskcon Temple along National Highway 16.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting convened by Khurda Collector on Tuesday where officials of NHAI and BMC were present. “It was decided that a joint survey will be carried out on July 9,” said Project Director, NHAI, Biju Patir.

The field officials of NHAI regional office here carry out the task of clearing and desilting the two culverts they have been constructed near the temple for discharging stormwater to the other side of the road, Putir added. Previously, when NHAI authorities had tried to carry out the desilting work, they had faced protests for which it couldn’t be done. “This time it will carry out in the presence of police,” he said.

Meanwhile, at another meeting of NHAI Chief General Manager and BMC Commissioner, NHAI officials have been asked to take up urgent short-term as well as long-term measures for future, a BMC official said. Due to lack of proper outlet, the rainwater coming from an entire catchment of Nayapalli area floods the service road along the NH near Iskon Temple during heavy rains.
