ROURKELA: Rourkela Smart City Limited  (RSCL) has finalised 110 locations in the steel city for installing electronic surveillance system. The tender for the project, which envisages enhancing safety and security in the city along with smooth management of traffic, will be floated next month, sources said. The RSCL sources said feedback and suggestions of residents of the localities, where the system will be installed, were  being sought. The suggestions of technical experts from National Institute of Technology-Rourkela have been incorporated in the project.

It is learnt that the electronic surveillance system has been made part of the Master System Integrator (MSI) and would be monitored from the Command and Control Centre which is likely to come up near the Chamber Bhawan.RSCL sources said the system will comprise high-resolution CCTV cameras with Pan-Tilt Zoom capabilities and night vision features.

Under Traffic Violence Detection System (TVDS), the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras would monitor traffic rules compliance. On noticing traffic rules violations, including speed limit violation and lane indiscipline, e-challan would automatically be sent to the errant vehicle owners as the database of Regional Transport Office would be integrated with the MSI.

Rourkela SP Uma Shankar Dash informed that RSCL has finalised 110 locations and hopefully the electronic surveillance system would shortly be put in place. He said it would enhance the safety and security environment and also help in traffic regulations. The project is running at least one year behind schedule as it was initially scheduled to be installed from July 2017.  It is learnt the tender would be floated in August with target to finalise bidders in eight weeks.
