ROURKELA: Vigil has been intensified on Odisha-Jharkhand border in the wake of observance of Martyrs Week by CPI (Maoist).

Rourkela police is keeping a close watch on the outfit’s intense poster campaign on the Jharkhand side of the border, including the vast Saranda forest. The Martyrs Week began on July 28. Reports said the outfit, through numerous banners and posters in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, has given a call to observe August 1 and 2 as ‘protest days’ against the ‘fascist’ Modi government and atrocities of security forces. The outfit has also given a bandh call in Jharkhand and Bihar on August 3 against police atrocities and in support of ‘Jal, Jungle, Zameen’  movement.

Sources said the posters and banners have been put up at several places of Saranda forest besides Anandpur and Jareikela, close to Sundargarh border. Similar posters and banners were put up at Manoharpur, Sonua, Goeilkela, Chakradharpur and several other areas of West Singhbhum.

Rourkela SP Uma Shankar Dash said precautions have been taken and bordering police stations have been put on alert. He said there was no report of Maoists’ movement on Odisha side of the border.Sources said a small group of Maoists from Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh belonging to Sundargarh-Deogarh-Sambalpur division and led by Anmol Hembram is moving around the forest of Bonai sub-division.
