Newborn girl found abandoned in Odisha's farm land

SAMBALPUR: A newborn baby girl was found abandoned at Santikra village near Gosala within Burla police limits here on Monday morning.Villagers first spotted the baby in a farm land on the outskirts of Santikra and informed police and Childline, Sambalpur.

Subsequently, the baby was rescued and admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit of VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla by Childline officials.Police said the baby’s parents have been identified. They are Narendra Nanda and Laxmi Nanda of Gaurgaon within Tusura police limits in Balangir district.

Member of Childline Jyoti Satpathy said the baby was born with deformity in one of her legs and a bruise on her back at VIMSAR on May 28. The doctors had referred the infant to Cuttack.Narendra and Laxmi told the doctors that they would take the baby to Cuttack and left VIMSAR on Sunday. However, the couple dumped the infant, she said. Police have informed the parents of the baby. If they do not turn up, the Childline will hand over the baby to Child Welfare Committee, Sambalpur, Satpathy added.
Burla IIC Manas Pradhan said they have already apprised Tusura police about the incident.
