Arts success rate drops, Commerce shows improvement in Odisha Plus Two exams

BHUBANESHWAR: Success rate in the Plus Two Arts dropped while results in the Commerce stream improved as the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) declared the annual results for the two branches here on Saturday.

Like in the Science stream, results of which were published by the Council on May 19, this time too girls fared better than boys. The overall pass percentage of all streams stood at 71.47.

Abheepsa Mishra, a student of Ravenshaw Junior College, Cuttack emerged the topper in Plus Two Arts having secured 541 marks. She was the only one to pocket 90 percent score in the stream.

The Commerce stream had joint toppers. Anish Patnaik, a student of Shiksha College, Berhampur and Sai Pravin Patnaik of Rayagada Junior College scored 544 marks and shared the top spot. B Leelarani
from Khallikote Junior College, Berhampur, secured 542 marks and was placed at number 2 rank.

The result of Arts stream showed a decline by 1.38 per cent as 68.79 per cent students cleared the exams compared to last year’s 70.17 per cent. The pass rate among girls and boys in the stream stood at 75.39 per cent and 60.88 per cent respectively.

Out of 2.30 lakh students in arts, 1.58 lakh cleared the exam, including 94,619 girls. While 4,006 students secured first division, as many as 3,734 students passed in second division.

In Commerce stream, about 74.91 per cent students cleared the exams registering a rise as compared to 71.39 percent last year. As many as 26,984 students had appeared for Commerce stream of which 20,216 students passed. Only 2,99 Commerce students secured first division while 1,692 students passed in second division.

In both the streams, girls outshone the boys. The overall pass percentage for girls in Arts stream was 76.33 per cent against 66.78 per cent for boys. The pass percentage of girls and boys in Commerce pegged at 78.48 per cent and 73.11 per cent respectively.

Minister Patra said, only one student managed above 90 per cent in Arts while three grabbed 90-plus per cent in the Commerce stream.

The pass percentage of vocational examinations of the board was 52.61 per cent. CHSE had conducted the Plus II examination between March 5 and March 29 at 1,104 centers in over 1,500 colleges across State. Around 3.65 lakh students had appeared for the exams including 2.33 lakh students from Arts and 36,447 students from Commerce stream.

The results of Science stream was published on May 19 and 76.98 per cent students had cleared the papers. Girls had outsmarted boys in the stream as 78.88 per cent girls cleared the test against 75.69 per cent boys.
