BARGARH: A 52-year-old woman was arrested for mercilessly assaulting her elderly mother-in law in public at Talpali village within Gaisilet police limits here on Friday.
The accused woman was identified as Balmati Sahu of Talpali. The inhuman act, which took place on Thursday morning, was captured by a villager on his mobile phone and the video went viral on social media.
In the video, Balmati is seen dragging her 75-year-old mother-in-law Padmabati Sahu on the village road. Later, she beats Padmabati who can be seen screaming in pain.
Balmati is the wife of Padmabati’s elder son. Padmabati stays with her younger son in the village.
On Thursday morning, the elderly woman was sitting in front of her younger son’s house when Balmati reached there and had an a heated exchange with her. Later in a fit of rage, Balmati dragged Padmabati on the road of the village and thrashed her in the public.
On Friday, Padmabati lodged a complaint with the local police in this regard following which Balmati was arrested.
