Odisha: Tigress on way to pair with Kanha tiger in Satkosia Tiger Reserve

BHUBANESWAR: MB-2, the male tiger of Kanha National Park shifted to Satkosia Tiger Reserve (STR), is all set to get a female partner as a tigress from Bandhavgarh TR is on her way to reach here on Thursday. The forest department of Madhya Pradesh is facilitating the transport of the tigress.

After getting MB-2, the STR considered waiting for a female partner instead of pairing him with a three-year-old female in the enclosure to ensure that he does not go far in search of a partner. The move is also said to give the pair enough time together and gauge their behaviour.

Though STR has a female tiger in the age group of six to eight, it decided to wait for a younger one.
The young MB-2, who has been kept in the specially-designed enclosure spread over two hectare near Raigoda in the core of STR has already shrugged off the signs of relocation and has settled down. The Kanha tiger, fitted with GPS and satellite tracker, is under surveillance.

Once the pairing is done, both will be released to the wild, the sources added. After arrival of the female tiger, Madya Pradesh Government will send two more pairs of Royal Bengal Tigers to STR under the country’s first ever inter-State tiger relocation programme.
