Normalcy returns to Odisha's Therubali plant after agitators call off strike

Agitators, led by tribal leader Jitu Jakesika, on Friday called off their strike at Therubali plant after a tripartite meeting between the district administration, Imfa authorities and protestors. 

RAYAGADA: Agitators, led by tribal leader Jitu Jakesika, on Friday called off their strike at Therubali plant after a tripartite meeting between the district administration, Imfa authorities and protestors. Following this, the main gate of the plant was opened for labourers and normalcy was restored at the plant.
On Wednesday, Jakesika along with the locals of Therubali had launched the strike alleging that Imfa authorities had failed to fulfil their nine-point charter of demands which was assured in the first tripartite meeting held last month. The production at  the plant was affected for two consecutive days due to the protest.

Meanwhile, the Imfa authorities submitted compliance report of the last proceedings to the Collector. Senior general manager of Imfa KV Rao said, “We are working on the demands made by the agitators and it will be fulfilled soon.”

Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar said a committee comprising local Block Development Officer (BDO), Tehsildar, PRI members of seven panchayats and two local representatives will be formed. It will meet every three months to assess the CSR activities of the company, she added. Among others, SP Rahul PR, ADM Sudhakar Sabar, Deputy Collector Subrat Panigrahi, Sub-Collector Prabir Kumar Naik, ASP Jagannath Rao and Jakesika were present.
