BHUBANESWAR: Power requirement of Tata Steel’s Kalinga Nagar Project got a huge boost after the 400 KV line from New Duburi grid sub-station of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) was successfully energised on Tuesday.City-based AK Das Associates Ltd which successfully completed the project also energised the 400 KV line along with two 400 KV bay extensions at New Duburi.

Initially, Tata Steel was been permitted to receive 120 MW power in 220 KV from OPTCL for its Kalinga Nagar Project. However, in view of its future expansion plans, the steel giant applied for 200 MW power in 220 KV which, as per standards, is not possible.  It was due to consistent efforts of CMD of OPTCL Hemant Sharma that Tata Steel got the permission to avail power in 400 KV from an inter-state grid substation of OPTCL at New Duburi. Since 2005, when Kalinga Nagar Project was in inception stage, AK Das Associates has been working with Tata Steel for various construction works such as perimeter wall, 220 KV and 400 KV transmission lines, substations, diversion of existing 220 KV line for rail logistics corridor till date.

Tata Steel will now get uninterrupted power supply in 400 KV voltage level from inter-state of OPTCL and the same power will also be adequate for Tata Steel for its second phase expansion project at Kalinga Nagar, Amiya Kanta Das, MD of AK Das Associates Ltd said.Recently, Tata Steel Ltd constructed a 220/33 KV sub-station at OPTCL grid which was successfully executed by AK Das Associates Ltd. The energisation was done in presence of senior officials of OPTCL and AK Das Associates.
