Dangling danger in Jharsuguda areas

JHARSUGUDA:  Frequent power cut due to ill-maintained electric wires and transformers has turned lives of Jharsuguda town residents miserable. Sources said WESCO has not replaced defective wires in the town for the last 10-12 years leading to disruption in electricity supply. To make matters worse, the risk of getting electrocuted due to hanging high-intensity electricity wires during monsoon looms large over the residents. Dangling wires pose a grave danger to people residing in Mangal Bazar, Puranabasti, Sarbahal, Behramal and Badhaimunda areas of the township.

Shatrughan Meher, a resident of Biju Nagar, said open transformers owned by WESCO are a potential threat to people at several places of the town including St Mary’s School, OCP Chowk, Siva multiplex, telephone exchange and Behramal. “Some traders oblivious of the danger are running their shops near such transformers”, he said. Meher said some residents have been seeking barbed wire fencing around such transformers on a priority basis. WESCO Executive Engineer Dwitia Gardia said steps are being taken for proper maintenance.
