Maoists fell trees, block roads in Odisha

The Maoists on Monday blocked roads at several places in Kalahandi district as part of the 24-hour bandh called by them over their demands.

BHAWANIPATNA: The Maoists on Monday blocked roads at several places in Kalahandi district as part of the 24-hour bandh called by them over their demands.

Maoists have put up posters in Thuamul Rampur, Lanjigarh and Madan Rampur blocks of the district. The ultras also blocked Bhawanipatna-Thuamul Rampur road between Permanji and Saisurni by felling trees. The area comes under Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary.

One of the printed poster left at the spot mentioned that in Chhattisgarh and Odisha displacement is caused by different irrigation projects, mining activities, extension of national highways, among others. The Maoists also held the State and Central Governments guilty of supporting industrialisation.
The posters have been issued by Odisha State Committee of Bharatiya Communist Party (Maoist). 

Similarly, Gandapadar and Sindiguda ghati on M Rampur-Mohangiri road was also blocked near Musanal under Lanjigarh block. However, no untoward incident was reported on the day.Additional SP Gopinath Manipatra said police is keeping a close watch and steps are being taken to remove road obstacles with necessary precautionary measures.
