Odisha government targets to set up 75,000 MSMEs this year

Altogether, 3.22 lakh MSMEs have been established with an investment of Rs 15,959 crore and employment generated for 13.35 lakh persons till March 2018.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has set a target to set up around 75,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with an investment of `4,500 crore during the current financial year.
Setting targets for regional industries centres and district industries centres (DICs), the MSME department has asked the directorate of industries to ensure that the projects sanctioned under various schemes are grounded in 2018-19. These units will generate employment for about 3.75 lakh people, sources in the department said.

As many as 4,970 MSMEs will be set up under Bhubaneswar DIC with an investment of Rs 298 crore followed by 4,900 units under Cuttack DIC with an investment of Rs 294 crore, 4,500 units under Ganjam DIC with investment of Rs 270 crore and 4,300 units under Rourkela DIC entailing an investment of `258 crore.Units sanctioned under schematic finance like National Rural Livelihood Mission, National Urban Livelihood Mission, Integrated Child Development Scheme, agriculture and fisheries are also included in the target.

Recounting the achievements of the department last month, MSME Minister Prafulla Samal  had claimed that 1.97 lakh MSMEs have been established in the State with an investment of Rs 10,320 crore in the last four years from 2014-15 to 2017-18. These units have created 5.96 lakh jobs.

Altogether, 3.22 lakh MSMEs have been established with an investment of Rs 15,959 crore and employment generated for 13.35 lakh persons till March 2018, he added. The Minister said 3,752 motivational camps have been organised across the State to motivate 323,451 youth for setting up MSMEs, while 20,049 youths have been provided with entrepreneurship training under Entrepreneurship Development Programmes.

Youth nabbed for breaching airport security

The security lapses at Biju Patnaik International Airport  (BPIA), here, were exposed when a youth was caught while suspiciously moving towards the runway on Tuesday. The youth, identified as Krishna Rout (20) of Panchasakha Nagar here, trespassed into the airport by scaling the perimeter wall near Gate of Terminal-1. He was nabbed by the CISF personnel and handed over to the local airfield station. Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) YB Khurania said Krishna was booked for criminal trespassing. While the father of the accused told a section of media that Krisha is not mentally stable, the CP said Hyderabad Police had also detained him on June 2 and found him to be in unstable condition of mind.
