BERHAMPUR: Traffic on national highway-57 was disrupted for several hours on Sunday after locals staged a road blockade at Radhanagar village in Boudh district protesting the death of a woman in an accident. On Saturday night, Paneswari Dhal (47) was killed after a speeding car rammed into her thatched house along the highway. She was alone in her house when the mishap took place.

The car was coming from Chari Chhak to Boudh when its driver lost control and crashed the vehicle into Dhal’s house. While the woman was killed on the spot, the car driver fled. On Sunday morning, irate locals blocked the NH-57 demanding compensation for Dhal’s family and action against the erring driver.

On being informed, police reached the spot and held a discussion with the agitators. The blockade was lifted after police assured the locals of considering their demands. SDPO AB Guru said the woman’s body was sent for postmortem. Efforts are underway to identify the car owner and arrest the driver.
