DEOGARH : Vigilance officials on Friday arrested the secretary of Kadopada primary agricultural cooperative society (PACS) here for allegedly misappropriating Rs 40.71 lakh by manipulating official records and siphoning off farmers’ loan repayments.

The accused is Suresh Chandra Sahu. Officials said a detailed probe revealed that Sahu systematically diverted funds by deliberately altering the PACS day book, the primary register used to record daily financial transactions.

Investigators found that he received loan repayment amounts from farmers but failed to enter these transactions in the official records, rendering the money unaccounted and enabling him to embezzle the entire sum.

Following inquiry, a case was registered in Rourkela Vigilance police station under the PC Act. After his arrest, Sahu was produced in the special Vigilance court, Sambalpur.
