BERHAMPUR: A 67-year-old man died due to electrocution in Nabaratnapur village under Aska police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Duba Malik. Sources said Duba left his house to inspect his sugarcane field but did not return for a long time. During search, he was found lying motionless in the field, with a snapped power conductor nearby. He was rushed to Aska hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Villagers alleged that electricity was being illegally drawn for nearby brick kilns, during which the power conductors snapped, leading to the mishap. They gathered on the road in protest. Police reached the spot, pacified the protesters, and sent the body for postmortem. Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s son Surya Malik, police registered a UD case.
