BERHAMPUR: At least 30 people suffered injuries after a bus collided with a pickup van at Jhatipitia village under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday.

Police sources said the bus was on its way to Chikiti from Digapahandi when a dry fish-laden pickup van coming from the opposite side collided with it. The impact of the crash was so severe that both the vehicles overturned, resulting in injuries to the passengers and drivers of the bus and the van.

Locals rescued the passengers from the bus and rushed them to Digapahandi community health centre. Seven of them were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MCH) at Berhampur as their condition was serious.

Later in the day, Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena along with Ganjam collector V Keerthi Vasan visited the MCH and met the injured passengers. Police registered a case and seized both the vehicles involved in the mishap. Further investigation is underway, said police.
