PARADIP: Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo on Friday urged farmers to shift towards organic fertilisers to counter international procurement difficulties and supply chain bottlenecks, particularly the acute shortage of ammonia caused by the tensions in West Asia that has impacted major fertiliser production units in Paradip.
During his visit to the port town, Singh Deo called for adoption of organic farming practices in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to farmers to promote sustainable agriculture. The deputy CM’s appeal comes in wake of ammonia shortage slowing down production at two fertiliser plants in Paradip.
Singh Deo, who is also the Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, stated that although the state government has restricted unscheduled power cuts during the ongoing heatwave, disruptions are still occurring in several areas.
Overloading of power supply systems and frequent burning of substations during the extreme heat have led to interruptions in electricity supply. However, the Energy department has taken precautionary measures to minimise power cuts during the heatwave, he said.
On the day, Singh Deo attended a district-level training programme of the Jagatsinghpur unit of BJP held at the Biju convention hall of Paradip Port.
Addressing the gathering, he stressed the importance of discipline and organisational ethics within the party. Singh Deo advised BJP workers to remain committed to the party’s ideology, principles and the vision of nation-building.
Among others, Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, Jagatsinghpur MLA Amarendra Das and other BJP leaders attended the meeting.
