NAGERCOIL: The sitting DMK MLA of Nagercoil Assembly constituency, A Rajan joined the AIADMK in the presence of AIADMK leader Thalavai Sundaram in Nagercoil on Tuesday.
A Rajan had sent a letter to AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa regarding him joining the party and a copy of the same was forwarded to this office as a press release.
In the letter, he stated that from 1986 till date, he was working hard for the DMK party.
“Even though I contested the district party election, I was declared defeated because the election was not held in a democratic manner. I as an elected member, had done many things for the minority Christian community. Even though the party functionaries and the Kanyakumari district Roman Catholic Bishop Peter Remigius through fax and phone had conveyed this many times to the DMK headquarters, because of Alagiri the party ticket for this Assembly election was given to Mahesh, who is an indirect supporter of the BJP.
“Even Kalaignar opposed this. Therefore, I have decided to join the AIADMK which really gives importance to minority community,” stated Rajan in his release.
“As Rajan was suffering from chicken pox, on receiving his letter, party leaders asked me to go and meet Rajan. Therefore on Tuesday evening, I along with the Nagercoil Assembly segment AIADMK candidate Nanjil Murugesan went to meet Rajan and enquired about his health and greeted him,” said AIADMK former minister Thalavai Sundaram to Express.
Meanwhile, an advertisement published by one Dr L Tharsius, the secretary of the Kottar Diocese in the local editions of the vernacular dailies and evening newspapers states that in view of the Assembly elections candidates belonging to various political parties who are contesting from six Assembly segments in the district met the diocese bishop Peter Remigius for getting his blessings. But the Bishop did not permit any of the candidates to take photographs.
If any of the candidates had published advertisements with the photograph it was false, the advertisement stated.
