MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Assembly election results revealed that the people of Madurai have only rejected Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and south zone DMK organising secretary M K Alagiri, said Sellur K Raju, Co-op Minister.
After swearing in as Minister for Cooperatives, Raju returned to the city on Saturday to thank the voters of his Madurai West constituency.
Pointing out Alagiri’s remark that there wont be AIADMK in the State after the Assembly election, Raju said the people had actually rejected him rather than AIADMK.
Talking to reporters, Raju pointed out that of the total of about 900 votes polled in the polling station where Alagiri cast his vote, only 200 voted in favour of DMK while around 500 had favoured AIADMK there itself. Alagiri could not help the DMK candidate fare well even in his own polling booth, Raju said.
“Madurai reeling under the clutches of rowdism has become a place where none can register their lands without paying bribe to Alagiri and no business could be started without his’s consent. Jayalalithaa will put an end to all these atrocities in Madurai and for that the denizens had rendered justice by making AIADMK alliance won all the 10 seats in the district. Madurai electorate had once again proved that it was an AIADMK bastion. In all the 4 constituencies in the urban district, AIADMK had achieved a landslide victory with a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes,” the Minister pointed out.
Raju, also the urban district secretary of AIADMK, has been elected to the Assembly for the first time and was awarded with a Cabinet berth by party supremo Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Several party functionaries and cadres greeted him at the Circuit House here. Some of the officials in the district also paid courtesy visits to the minister.
Later, Raju began his tour of thanking the voters in Madurai Jaihindpuram and continued his visit covering several points in his constituency. Raju said that he would be faithful to the people of Madurai for their gesture towards AIADMK.
