PUDUCHERRY: The All India Civil Service (Preliminary) Examination 2012 was held in Puducherry on Sunday. As many as 1,215 candidates appeared for the exam in the morning session, while nine candidates chose not to appear for the afternoon session bringing the number down to 1,204.

Nearly half the people who had applied failed to appear for the exam.

Assistant coordinating supervisor and managing director of AFT, S D Sundaresan said that the examination was held at six sub-centers.

Tight security was provided at all centres and elaborate arrangements were made for conducting the exams without glitches. Nearly 500 government employees were roped in for conducting the exams.

T Srikanth, the education secretary, was the chief co-coordinating supervisor while Rajiv Yadhuvamshi, finance secretary, was the observer.

Special buses, from the new bus stand to the examination centres, were run for the benefit of all the exam candidates.
