Depressed teen hangs self in house

An 18-year-old engineering student allegedly committed suicide at Madhavaram on Thursday. Yokaraj was in a depressed state when he reached home on Thursday, police said. His mother reached home to find him hanging from the ceiling.

Absconding Pawn Broker Held for Fraud

A pawn broker was on Friday arrested by the Madhavaram Police for alleged cheating.Devaram went underground after promising to return 36 sovereigns of gold jewels pledged by Muthu of MM Colony, police said, adding that Muthu found the shop locked when he went to retrieve it.

Lorry Kills Techie

A 28-year-old software professional, Suresh, who worked with an IT major near the Tambaram MEPZ was run over by a speeding lorry in the wee hours of Friday. He was killed on the spot as he came under the wheels of the vehicle.

Minor Fire at Chitlapakkam

A minor fire broke out at the ICDS Office in Chitlapakkam on Friday. The Tambaram fire brigade rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused in less than an hour.  Police said the fire could have been caused by an electrical short-circuit in the building. A case has been registered.
