Four persons, three men and one woman were killed on the spot and 20 others sustained injuries after a mini bus proceeding from Kotagiri to Kottacombai village fell into a gorge near Kotagiri on Monday night. Sources said, the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was speaking over the mobile phone at the time of the accident.
Locals and passers-by who saw the accident rushed to the passengers’ rescue.
Police, who arrived at the spot, with the help of villagers broke the windscreens of the bus and pulled out the injured. The injured were rushed to Kotagiri, Mettupalayam and Coimbatore government headquarters hospitals. Four persons have suffered serious injuries, cops said.
The identity of the dead and those injured in the accident were yet to be ascertained, police said.
