Nanjil Sampath opts for two leaves

MDMK’s disgruntled leader Nanjil Sampath on Tuesday called on AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at her residence here and joined the party. The AIADMK supremo appointed Sampath as the deputy propaganda secretary of the party.

“I am assigned to function as the deputy propaganda secretary by Puratchi Thalaivi Amma. The immediate recognition is a pleasant surprise for me. From now on, I am dedicating myself to the party,” Sampath said after joining the AIADMK.

Sampath said the government headed by Jayalalithaa had been implementing many first-of-its-kind welfare schemes and taking steps to make the State the numero uno in the country. Stating that the CM has been striving hard to safeguard the dignity and self-respect of Tamil Nadu, Sampath said he would propagate the glories of the AIADMK rule across the State hereafter.

Asked about reports that he would be joining the DMK, Sampath said it was a canard spread by his enemies. Sampath said he had been deliberately betrayed by the MDMK leadership.  “I have worked for the MDMK for the past 19 years but never sought any reward for it. I just wanted to continue to function in the party. But I was not allowed to do so. My effigy was burnt in my hometown and there have been threats to my life. Continuing in the MDMK became impossible after these developments and I was forced to leave the party.”
