Jaya gives fisheries department 100 crore boost

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced several measures to give a fillip to the fisheries sector in the State. The measures include allocation of Rs 63 crore for setting up of 11 fish landing centres, Rs 37 crore for establishing fish hatcheries and allocated Rs 1 crore for organising a four-day sea food festival at Island Grounds, in Chennai.

An official release here said the fish hatcheries would come up at Bhavanisagar, Thirukambuliyur, Asoor, Thattamanaipatti, Agarapettai, Neydhalur, Thattankulam, Vidoor dam, Vaniyanchavadi, Manimuthar and Lalpet. 

Similarly, the fish landing centres would be established at Kadapakkam, Samiyarpettai, Serudhur, Muthukooda, Devipattinam, Rochmanagar, Tharuvaikulam, Vivekanandar Colony at Thirespuram, Inaiyambuthanthurai, Simon Colony and Kurumbanai.
