Four habitual offenders detained under Goondas Act

The Vellore police detained four criminals under the Goondas Act, who were cooling their heels at the Vellore Central Prison for Men, on Friday. The quartet was arrested in connection with a dacoity case.

The Viruthampet police served the detention orders on the four habitual offenders - Radha alias Radha Krishnan (30) of Hosur, Prabakaran (23) of Puducherry, Iqbal Hussain (36) of Hosur and Sankar (27), said the Superintendent of Police (SP), Vellore, I Eswaran, in a statement.

The quartet, along with six accomplices, had entered into the house of a 57-year-old Poniyakodi on II East Main Road in Gandhi Nagar around 9.30 pm on Sept 4 this year. The gang robbed jewels around 30 sovereigns and `2 lakh from the inmates of the house and also injured Poniyakodi.

SP Eswaran had recommended to Collector to issue detention orders against the four persons under the Goondas Act. The Collector had issued the order on Thursday, said a release.
