Corporation staff get walkie-talkies

The officials and staff of the Vellore Corporation were given walkie-talkies to improve coordination and enable them to address civic issues expeditiously.

Officials said the walkie-talkies were used by the Corporation earlier, but they developed some glitches. The gadgets have been repaired and handed out to the officials and staff in the engineering, health and town planning departments.

Corporation engineer E Devakumar said, “The department has planned to purchase 50 more walkie-talkies for staff in the newly added areas of the Corporation and drivers of garbage collection vehicles, tankers and lorries.”

Devakumar said the towers for the walkie-talkies existed at the Palar Head Works, Sarathi Maaligai Commercial Complex and near the compost yard at Sadhupperi. Steps would be taken to erect new towers in other areas as well.
