A 33-year-old woman surrendered before the Kondapalayam police on Monday, claiming to have attacked and injured a man near Sholinghur on Monday.
Around 4 pm on Monday, Annalakshmi (33), vice-president of Pulivalam panchayat, approached the Kondapalayam police station and surrendered claiming that she had injured panchayat president Chidambaram (45). She attacked him with a pen-knife and inflicted injuries on his private parts when he visited her at her house on Monday. She stated that Chidambaram had raped her a month back and it was an act of revenge. Police sources said Annalakshmi, the wife of a defence personnel and Chidambaram were allegedly having an affair. After the attack, Chidambaram was admitted to a private hospital near Melvishram.
