Depressed Navy man hangs self

A Navy man undergoing training at INS Agrani allegedly committed suicide on the campus here on Thursday.

Police said G Gurinder Singh (24), a Navy personnel, was missing from Thursday morning. Later he was found hanging on the campus by his colleagues.

A suicide note had been recovered from the cupboard in Singh’s room in which he had said that he took the extreme step as he was not able to do his work properly.

“He seemed to be suffering from shoulder pain and hence was not able to work properly. In his note, Gurinder had said that he was depressed as he was not able to perform like his colleagues and also mentioned that nobody was responsible for his decision,” said a police official investigating the case. Singh was a native of Rajpura town in Patiala district and was serving in a battalion based in Goa.

He had come to INS Agrani, a Navy institute, just 10 days ago for training.

“The personnel usually wake up around 4.15 am and report at the institute’s ground. But the deceased was missing in the room since morning. As he didn’t turn up at the ground, his colleagues started searching for him. Around 6 am, he was found hanging in a gap between two buildings on the campus,” a police official said.

The Ramanathapuram police have registered a case.
