Dr Chowdhuri bags Parvez Guzdar Young Scientist Award

Dr Manis Chowdhuri of the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, Munich, Germany was awarded Parvez Guzdar Young Scientist Award 2012, for his contributions to the field of dusty plasmas/complex plasmas, during the the 27th national symposium on Plasma Science & Technology, which concluded here on Thursday.

The award carries a citation and a cash award of `50,000. The award was constituted in the memory of Dr Parvez N Guzdar of University of Maryland who was an alumni of Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, and internationally acclaimed for his contributions in areas of plasma physics.

Swarniv Chandra of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and Udit Narayan Pal of the CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, Rajasthan, were awarded The Buti Young Scientist Awards 2012, for excellence in research. The award carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation was constituted by the Buti Foundation, New Delhi to recognise the outstanding work carried out by PhD scholars in India working in various allied areas of plasma science & technology.  B Hari Babu from Department of Physics,  and Anandkumar from Department of Nanotechnology, Pondicherry University, were awarded with certificates of merit.

The awards were presented by the president, Plasma Science Society of India (PSSI), Prof Avinash Khare of the Delhi University.
