Jaya raps Centre over Arasu licence

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to expedite the issue of licence to state-owned Arasu Cable TV Corporation to start digital distribution in the city.

Jayalalithaa has said in the letter that there was a delay in the issue of the licence to Arasu Cable, even as licences had been issued to a number of other companies that had applied after Arasu Cable.

Jayalalithaa pointed out that she had revived Arasu Cable soon after coming to power in 2011, and that the corporation had become the largest Multi System Operator (MSO) in the country. Sixty lakh people and 23,000 Local Cable Operators (LCO) in 31 of Tamil Nadu’s 32 districts were benefiting from the cost-effective services of Arasu Cable, Jayalalithaa’s letter said.

It also pointed out that Arasu Cable is still waiting for its licence to operate in the new digital regime in Chennai.
