Vasan hits out at Karnataka on Cauvery

The unruly demeanour of Karnataka over not respecting the judgement of the Supreme Court and the order of the Prime Minister on releasing Cauvery water was utterly condemnable, said Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan at a function held here on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “If Karnataka does not release Cauvery water, the farmers in the delta region will be affected to a large extent. Keeping this in the mind, Karnataka must co-operate with Tamil Nadu.”

Asked about the SC/ST promotion quota bill, he said opposition from other parties was delaying the amendment bill. However, he exuded confidence that the UPA government would manage the bill at any cost.

He ruled out possibility of early elections stating that the Lok Sabha polls would be held “only in May 2014”.

“The PM, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi carried out effective election campaigns and so, we expect good results in the Gujarat elections,” he added.
