Lankan Navy frees 8 detained TN fishermen

The Sri Lankan navy detained eight Indian fishermen from Mandapam for some time and released them after an inquiry on Monday.

An official of the Fisheries Department said that four fishermen - Govindaraj, Selvaraj, Muthumari and Ramu - from Mandapam ventured into the sea on Saturday. They sought shelter at Katchativu Island after their boat, which hit a rock, was damaged. Four other fishermen, after obtaining search order from the Fisheries dept here, went into the sea on the look out for for their missing colleagues on Monday. All the 8 were spotted by the Lankan navy and were detained by them.
