Rift widens over ‘Vishwaroopam’

The rift between Kamal Haasan’s production house Raj Kamal Films International and theatre owners over Vishwaroopam Direct-To-Home (DTH) issue seems to getting only wider everyday, with contrasting moves from both the sides.

On Tuesday, the Tamil Nadu Theatre Oweners’ Association had reasserted their stand about not releasing the film in theatres after it was premiered on TV through DTH in Madurai, after meeting theatre owners from about three film distribution areas including Chennai.

Association joint secretary Sridhar asks why Kamal Haasan is firm about his DTH plan only in Tamil, while he backed off from doing the same for Telugu and Hindi versions due to opposition from distributors. His contention is that relaying a film on DTH before release will only increase the risk of piracy.
