‘Ensure fare meters are in place’

After cracking the whip on autorickshaws for errant driving and lack of meters, the transport department has shifted its focus on ensuring that passengers are charged as per the rates fixed by the government.

Transport department Commissioner S D Sundaresan said autos with faulty meters would be taken to legal metrology department for correction and certification. He urged owners and drivers to paste certificate inside autos so that passengers could see them.

Action would be taken against autos without proper meters, under sections of Legal Metrology Act 1985. The deadline for fixing meters in autorickshaws was November 30.
