Dropping hints of a possible political realignment, founder of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Vijayakant on Sunday said he would support the appropriate people at the appropriate time.
Vijayakant gave the inkling at the Christmas celebrations at the party’s headquarters in Koyambedu, here. Addressing a gathering of party cadre, Vijayakant said he had played the lead role in the movie ‘Poruthathu Pothum’, for which DMK patriarch Karunanidhi had penned the dialogues.
Interestingly, Captain, who had been critical of the DMK, till he severed ties with the AIADMK, was perhaps soft on the party. “Load shedding was just two hours during the previous (DMK) regime. But, now it has increased to 18 hours everyday,” the actor-turned-politician alleged. (DMDK) Party cadre should show our strength during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, he said.
Earlier, Bishop Ezra Sargunam, founder president of Indian Social Justice Movement recalled the relationship between DMK’s ‘Kalaignar’ Karunanidhi and the DMDK leader ‘Puratchi Kalaignar’ Vijayakant. Claiming that he had witnessed the efficiency of Vijaykant, who headed the Nadigar Sangam earlier, Sargunam said, Vijayakant had organised a meeting to felicitate the then Chief Minister Karunanidhi in 1996.
“Karunanidhi and Vijayakant had a good relationship in the past; it soured later,” he said, adding, “I understand Vijayakant would have valid reasons for it.” Bishop Sargunam, who is believed to be in the good books of Karunanidhi, said: “Nalavargalum valavargalum ondru sera vendum,” (good and efficient people must come together).
Later, when Express asked him whom he had referred to, Bishop Sargunam refused to comment further.
Several DMDK party leaders and MLAs were present on the occasion.
