Thousands witness opening of Sorga Vasal

With Chants of “Ranga Ranga” filling the air, thousands of devotees had the darshan of Lord Namperumal when the Sorgavasal opened at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple on Monday.

With mercury levels dropping sharply, people braved the Margazhi winter to enter the temple and get a glimpse of the Namperumal. Long queues extending for kilometres were formed by thousands of devotees for entering the temple.

Around a thousand people housed in the Rajamahendran Thiru Chutru, where the Namperumal arose from the sanctorum and descended down the steps in Simha Gathi.

Later, in his palanquin, the Namperumal was carried via the Nazhikettan vasal. The Sorgavasal was opened at 4.45 am and the Lord crossed the doors, marking his entry into Bhooloka Vaikuntam.
